Cleo Murphy writing on free thinking…
Walden is the idyllic lakeside woodland that Henry David Thoreau retreated to in 1845 for a simpler life.
Sometimes, I wonder how complicated mainstream living could have been back then, but it seems people suffered the same anxieties over the same problems.
Thoreau’s observation that…
The incessant anxiety and strain of some is a well-nigh incurable form of disease. We are made to exaggerate the importance of what work we do…How vigilant we are!
…seems as relevant now as it was in the late 1840s.
Back then, folks were hell bent on staking their claim on the new American dream…to make money…to own property…to get ahead.
And even then, they were paying the price in anxiety and strain.
How much worse is it today? Have we learned nothing in the intervening time?
Well, you have…or you wouldn’t have signed up for this mailing. You obviously want to step back from the rat-race, the debt, the senseless accumulation of material goods.
But I’m curious as to your vision of the alternative.
So, let me ask you…what are you doing with your life at the moment? What do you want your future to look like?
Drop me a line and let me know…email@example.com.
Tell me what independence means to you. Is it escaping the office…taking an RV on the road to explore America…or buying a few acres of land to set up a homestead?
Are you working on ways to reduce your debt, cut your costs, and declutter your home?
Do you despair of the way the world is turning…the way we devour processed food, and spend a fortune on pharmaceutical drugs to treat the ensuing ailments?
Or is it the banking system that exorcises you? Are you outraged by the way the system forces you to have a bank account in the first place?
Do the opportunities presented by the new economy excite you? Are you to creating new income streams to tap into them?
Perhaps you feel a pang of nostalgia for a way of life that you remember from your childhood. Do you look back in envy at your parents or grandparents and the simpler way of life they enjoyed?
At Truth & Plenty we’re seeking new routes a simpler, more authentic way of living for people who recognize that the system is jaded…that there’s no future in wearing yourself out at a demanding job to pay a debt for a whole pile of consumer garage you didn’t need in the first place.
Let’s find another way…
