Andy Fleming writing on financial independence

The next time someone tells you “there’s no such thing as free money”, you can smile smugly, armed with the knowledge that this is no longer true. Businesses are constantly giving away cash kickbacks in an effort to attract new customers or people to use their services. Some of these sites simply require you to create an account, others may have you fill out a form or two before you receive your reward.

Regardless, none of these tasks take very long to complete. You could knock out all of them in a single afternoon if you so desire. Some rewards might be in the form of cash that can only be used on that particular site, others will simply transfer cash to your bank account!

1. NetSpend – $20

netSpend

Let’s take a look at some of the services that will just give you the money with no strings attached. Netspend will allow you to apply for a free Visa prepaid card, and will give you $20 for doing so. You’re required to load $40 on the card to get this benefit, but there’s nothing stopping you from immediately withdrawing that $60 once your free money comes in. There’s no minimum balance, so you won’t incur any fees for doing so.

2. Chase Bank – Up to $350

Chase

Having more than one bank account can be helpful if you’re trying to stash savings away for a rainy day. If you’re thinking about switching banks or adding another account, you should take advantage of Chase’s current offer for a free $350. All you have to do is enter your e-mail address to receive a free coupon. Currently, these expire on January 15, 2017, but these offers are always being replaced by similar deals. Once you open a checking account, you’ll need to receive at least one direct deposit and you’ll be rewarded with an easy $200. You can also open a savings account and deposit $10,000 for an additional $150.

3. Credit card rewards – $100 to $150 per card

CreditCards

This is one of the best ways to get free cash as long as you’re responsible with your credit card use. You can check out this listing of some of the current best credit card reward programs or input your info into this form to get personalized recommendations.

You’ll notice that many of these cards offer $100 to $150 bonuses for spending a certain amount within a few months of signing up. Obviously, you don’t want to make extra purchases to meet these requirements, but if you’re able to funnel purchases you were already planning on making through new cards you can easily get some free cash kickbacks. Many cards offering bonus cash rewards have no annual fee, as long as you pay off the balance in time you really are getting that money with no strings attached. Some people who favor this method report earning over $1,000 per year simply by signing up for and using new cards.

4. Motif – $90.05

Motif

Motif Investing is great for those interested in dipping their feet into the investment game. Instead of investing in individual stocks, you pick from pre-designed or custom portfolios of between 20 and 30 stocks from related fields. If you open a new account, deposit $1,000, and make one trade, you’ll receive a free $100 to do with as you will. Motif charges $9.95 for each trade, so you’re technically only getting $90.05 back. However, if you want to get started as a beginner investor anyway, you might as well pick Motif for the extra reward.
