Don Jr. Waters writing on online income….

The joy of homestead living is being able to start your day the way you choose…fresh eggs for breakfast, at a time of your own choosing, before wandering into the fields to use your muscles for digging the earth.

Rushing to get to an off-farm job isn’t really part of the dream. And yet you may require some supplementary income. Luckily, there are new ways that homesteaders can earn extra income without the need to leave their property.

One of them is to generate income online with a blog. Some of the world’s top bloggers bring in six figures, so it’s worth exploring the potential.

One of the best things about starting a blog is that it won’t cost you a dime. If you have internet access and a computer, then you can get started right away. There are many free blogging platforms that you can use to start building your site.  Here is a list of several free platforms:

Weebly

Weebly
Weebly is a free hosting service that also allows you to build a blog. This easy to use platform has all the tools you need to build a professional looking blog site. Weebly has built-in software that eliminates the need for HTML coding allowing just about anyone to build a website.  For those who want to upgrade, Weebly also offers paid services that will help you track blog traffic with analytics.

Blogger

Blogger

Blogger is another wonderful blogging platform that is free to use. Blogger is very simple to use and one of the most basic platforms around.  One reason that so many people choose Blogger is because it’s owned by Google and adding Google AdSense is super easy.

WordPress

Wordpress

Another free blogging platform is WordPress. But this platform is more advanced and will require some skill. WordPress will offer you more freedom and a lot more features.  Most professional bloggers use WordPress and it comes highly recommended.

As a homesteader, you can blog about your everyday life. You can specialize in cooking, canning, growing a garden or whatever makes your heart content.  Blogging about the things you love will make writing about them easy. This will help you build your own voice and attract like-minded people to your blog. The fan base that you build will be your bread and butter. So make sure to focus on building relationships with the people who visit your blog.

Once you have built a small fan base and you make regular high-quality blog posts, it’s time make money from it.  One of the best ways to monetize your blog is through Google AdSense. Once you sign up with AdSense Google, they place small ads on your blog. Then when someone clicks on the ad you get paid a small advertisement fee.

Another way to make money from your growing blog is by signing up to be an affiliate. Amazon.com offers a wonderful affiliate plan that lets you place product links on your blog.  When someone purchases a product on Amazon from the link on your blog, you get paid.  Amazon’s affiliate program will pay you 4% of every product you sell or more.  This really starts to add up especially if you send your followers to high ticket items such as lawnmowers or jewelry.

Paid banner ads are another way to make money with your blog, and companies will pay you a fee for ads placed on your blog.  Each of these methods of monetization can be combined to create a sizeable income from your blog.
